Weekend Watch: Halloweentown (1998)

Well… it’s our favorite time of year again. The air’s getting colder, the playlists are getting darker, and it only feels right to kick off spooky season with a classic — Halloweentown.

Released in 1998, the Disney Channel original became an October staple for anyone who grew up in the late ‘90s or early 2000s. It follows Marnie Piper, a girl who discovers she’s from a family of witches and steps through a portal into a world where ghosts, vampires, and goblins live side by side. It’s a little campy, totally nostalgic, and still feels like comfort TV.

Rewatching it now, there’s something charming about how Halloweentown balances that small-town Disney magic with genuine imagination. Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Aggie remains iconic — a reminder that the magic doesn’t disappear just because you grow up.

If you’re easing into the season, start here. Grab a blanket, light a pumpkin candle, and head back to Halloweentown. And don’t be surprised if we recommend Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge in the coming weeks… 🎃
